In the dining room, Johan reserves you a most charming welcome and makes it a point of honor to highlight the work in the kitchen of (chef) Pauline to sublimate fresh, local and seasonal products. La Vie en Rose in Montluçon

If you ask a Montluçonnais where to enjoy simple and good traditional and Bourbonnais cuisine, there is a good chance that they will answer, “At La Vie en Rose!” Nestled for nearly 35 years in one of the most beautiful streets of the medieval city, facing the Gothic church of Notre-Dame, this restaurant with a sweet name full of promises has become a reference.

On the terrace side, the quietness of a fountain, cobbled streets and mansions of the historic district…Inside, you won’t find any reference to the famous singer but two rooms decorated with old engravings of the city of Montluçon as well as vintage jazz and blues posters, accompanying a light musical background.

It’s on the plate and in the glass that your palate will see life in pink, with a home cooking offering regional specialties such as the famous pâté aux pommes de terre, the tourton with Tronçais tomme, the Chambérat pie, the Saint-Pourçain wine… Without forgetting a wide choice of other meat and fish as well as homemade desserts (raspberry gratin with almond cream, chocolate mousse…). In good Bourbonnais, it only remains for us to say to you: “Goûtez-y”!

We like: The soft atmosphere, the old engravings of Montluçon, the variety and the generosity of the proposed dishes, the specialties of Bourbonnais and local products, the reactive service and the listening staff, the good quality/price ratio, the welcome of groups.

La Brasserie de la Gare in Montluçon

What pleases first in this establishment facing the Montluçon train station, is the sober and modern decoration of the place as well as the warm welcome reserved for you by a dynamic and smiling team.

Then comes the time to choose among a varied choice of menus, formulas and a la carte dishes, all more appetizing than the others, both on paper and in the plate…! Simple and quick dishes such as bruschettas, croque-monsieur, mixed salads… But also well-cooked meats and fishes, accompanied by potatoes or vegetables and evolving according to the seasons. All nicely presented not to spoil anything !

As in any good brasserie that respects itself, you will be able to eat both fast and good, inside or by taking advantage of the terrace overlooking the most beautiful avenue of Montluçon: the avenue Marx Dormoy and its bourgeois buildings of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Au Coeur de Meaulne in Meaulne

Located in this pretty village crossed by the Aumance River and the Berry Canal, this charming hotel-restaurant offers you a current, inventive and refined cuisine, in a tastefully decorated room or on its shaded terrace.

The chef’s watchword: fresh and quality products from the markets, local producers and organic farming, for a colorful menu evolving with the seasons. This is where he finds his inspiration to suggest the royal of asparagus, creamy and asparagus tip with its raw ham from Auvergne, the filet of red mullet with champagne sauce and leek fondue or the Bourbonnaise veal chop, reduced juice with rosemary. The end of the meal is not to be outdone, with a cheese platter that lives up to the Auvergne’s reputation and succulent homemade pastries.

And since gastronomy is everyone’s business, the chef also thinks about our vegetarian friends and children, through menus adapted to their needs and desires…

At lunchtime in formulas accompanied by a good glass of wine or in the evenings and weekends within more elaborate menus, one feels here as if at home in a better way, pampered by Sonia in the dining room and Gregory in the kitchen, who do their utmost in order to make of your meal a pleasant and comfortable step.

In this bucolic setting, Gregory Gimenos offers you a gourmet break, out of time and disconnected from the outside world.
The Chef offers an authentic, rich and generous cuisine, to which he has managed to breathe a wind of freshness. He twists the classics with an ease and mischief that never tires of surprising us.

The decor matches the dishes perfectly. It is both simple and original.

To access the room, you have to pass through a foudre, a very large capacity barrel, equivalent to several barrels, and used to store wine.

The mass is said, welcome to a place where good products are honored and treated with the utmost respect.
The room is warm with its exposed wooden beams and orange tones.

Comfortable furniture, beautiful dishes, and bouquets of flowers, participate in the creation of a pleasant and serene atmosphere.

The tables, when they are far enough from each other allow you a meal in privacy.

We like: The traditional and stylish setting, the comfort of the furniture, the origin and quality of the products offered, the generosity of the plate, the friendliness and warm welcome, the shady and pleasant terrace.
