Get up high and admire the panoramic view from the Louis II de Bourbon esplanade. From here, you can appreciate the importance of the castle and its protective role for Montluçon.
Orientation tables show you the sights not to be missed.
The medieval town, huddled around the castle, was protected by powerful ramparts. Flanked by 40 towers, this wall was pierced by 4 gates giving access to the city.
The boulevard de Courtais and the boulevard Carnot, which form a complete loop around the historic centre, give you an idea of where the ramparts surrounded by moats once stood.
As you stroll around, you can admire the beautiful timber-framed houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, take in the peace and quiet of the churches of Saint-Pierre and Notre-Dame, or stroll in the shade of the ramparts in the Jardin Wilson.
