Tronçais Forest of Exception – EN

Nature lovers will be charmed by the monochrome of greens, the water leisure activities around the ponds, the bellowing of the stag, the mushroom picking, the sounders of the hunting hounds…

The Forêt de Tronçais offers a new face every season.

A vast playground

covering more than 10,500 ha!

Oak trees several hundred years old watch over the forest. From the Colbert Biological Reserve to its successor Colbert II, via the many fountains and legends, Tronçais unveils its mysteries.

Tronçais oak is world-renowned for its quality. In particular, it is used to make the barrels in which the finest French vintages are aged.

After being awarded the “Forêt d’Exception®” label in May 2018, the Forêt de Tronçais, a prestigious oak forest, renewed its prestigious label for a second time in October 2022, for a further 5 years.

Tronçais National Forest

Between Mystery and Tradition

The Forêt de Tronçais is a world of its own, home to bellowing stags in autumn, wild boar and roe deer, birds of prey and rare butterflies, gigantic listed oak trees and legendary fountains that hold an unspeakable charm.

In 1670, Colbert, Louis XIV’s prime minister, developed the forest to protect the quality timber used to build ships for the Royal Navy… But it was the cooperage industry and the world of spirits that gave Tronçais its international reputation.

In 2018, the Chênaie Prestige was awarded the Forêt d’Exception® label, a guarantee of excellence and a means of promoting its forestry, natural and cultural heritage.
