Oaks several times centenarian watch over the forest. From the Colbert biological reserve to its successor Colbert II, through the many fountains and legends; Tronçais unveils its mysteries.

The Tronçais oak is known worldwide for its quality. It is used in particular for the manufacture of barrels in which the greatest wines of the French vineyards are aged.

The Forest of Tronçais, a prestigious oak forest, has been labeled a Forêt d’Exception® since May 2018.

Between Mystery and Tradition

The Forest of Tronçais is a whole world; where deer bellow in autumn, where you still meet wild boars and roe deer, birds of prey and rare butterflies, where you discover gigantic classified oaks and where legendary fountains conceal an unspeakable charm.

In 1670, Colbert, Louis XIV’s first minister, developed the forest to protect quality wood, destined for the construction of ships for the Royal Navy… But it is the cooperage and the world of spirits that will give Tronçais its international reputation.

In 2018, the Chênaie Prestige is rewarded and obtains the label Forêt d’Exception®, a guarantee of an approach of excellence and a guarantee of an enhancement of its forestry, natural and cultural heritage.
