The medieval town of

Montluçon

Duration: 2 hours

Nestled against the castle of the Dukes of Bourbon, the medieval town of Montluçon is home to numerous treasures and architectural details: half-timbered houses, mansions, narrow alleyways, the churches of St Pierre and Notre-Dame…

Montluçon: The Secret

1 & 2

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Set off to explore Montluçon through anecdotes about street names, its famous figures and its extraordinary places…
An invitation to wander through the heart of Montluçon, exploring its history, beliefs and the evolution of its neighbourhoods. Unusual or historic street names and stories about the town’s famous sons and daughters will hold no more secrets for you!

Tronçais

a Forêt d'Exception®

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

The Tronçais oak is world-renowned for its quality. Around forty trees, many of which are several hundred years old, stand guard over the forest, which covers more than 10,500 hectares, along with its ponds, springs and avenues. In 2018, the Chênaie Prestige was recognised and awarded the Forêt d’Exception® label.

Through a presentation covering the area’s geography, history, administration and economy, you will explore this forest (by bus or on foot) from the hamlet of Tronçais to the Viljot fountain, passing close to the Colbert Biological Reserve and the Stebbing oak, now one of the finest oaks in the forest.

Hedgehog

Small Town of Character®

Duration: 2 hours

Awarded the “Petite Cité de Caractère®” label, the medieval village of Hérisson is sure to surprise you. Perched on a rocky outcrop, the ruins of the ancient and mighty fortress of the Dukes of Bourbon overlook the River Aumance. You will then stroll through the town’s narrow streets and alleyways, discovering the remains dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.

Optional (access by coach): a guided tour of the exterior and interior of St Pierre’s Church in Châteloy (listed as a Monument Historique), a Romanesque and Romantic site overlooking the Val d’Aumance tourist route.
