Whether it’s down to the uniqueness of the site itself or the approach taken, the Pays de Montluçon invites you to go hiking – yes, but with a difference!

Tronçais: a walk for everyone!

The St-Bonnet-Tronçais lake is accessible to everyone thanks to the Grillon’s facilities for people with reduced mobility. Set amongst woodland and water, this roughly 1 km walk features boardwalks, picnic tables and areas suitable for fishing.

Need a guide?

Christine Deffner will guide you through the landscapes, heritage, flora and fauna, and geology. She also offers a fun 6–7 km orienteering trail, guided tours during the rutting season, and Nordic walking excursions.

Hiking and Heritage

In the Cher Gorges

From the village of Ste-Thérence, set off on a more challenging hike to explore the Château de l’Ours. At the confluence of the Ruisseau de l’Ours and the Cher, its 12th-century ruins stand on a rocky outcrop covered in boxwood heathland – a landscape characteristic of and emblematic of the Combraille region. The view over the Cher Gorges from here is truly remarkable. You can continue the walk by heading down to the river and enjoying the cool, peaceful atmosphere there.

A real change of scenery guaranteed!

The Blue Lagoon

Situated in Louroux-Hodement (Haut-Bocage), this former granite quarry is one of the most unique hidden gems in the area. Discover this little corner of paradise where 50 shades of blue are revealed depending on the light, the sunshine or the vantage point.

A short footpath (around 1 km) takes you round this natural lake and offers a bird’s-eye view of this awe-inspiring site.

Please note that swimming is prohibited as it is extremely dangerous.
