A diverse range of flora and fauna

A natural area included in the Natura 2000 network, the Gorges du Cher offer a spectacular setting and are home to unique flora and fauna: reptiles, birds of prey, butterflies, as well as rare protected species such as the yellow-bellied toad.

Nature and Discovery

A paradise for sports enthusiasts and walkers

Two footbridges have been built to allow you to cross the Cher between Lignerolles and St-Genest, whilst a third, recently installed, offers even more hiking opportunities. Remarkable landscapes to be enjoyed to your heart’s content in Saint-Genest or Sainte-Thérence.

The Château de l’Ours, at the confluence of the Ruisseau de l’Ours and the Cher, reveals its 12th-century ruins on a rocky outcrop covered in boxwood heathland – a landscape characteristic of and emblematic of the Combraille region. The Gorges du Cher are a real playground for thrill-seekers:

They talk about it

better than us!

A lovely walk in the Cher Valley, with paths winding through beautiful woodlands, few people about and easy to get to.

If you enjoy walking in a peaceful, scenic valley without too much of a challenge, I’d recommend heading to the Lignerolles footbridge (Via Ferrata).

If you’re in the area, this site – which is a bit off the beaten track – is well worth a visit.

The motorboat club, based on a stretch of water on the River Cher, 20 km upstream from Montluçon, welcomes you to learn or improve your water-skiing skills.

Its aim is to enable both its members and non-members to practise various disciplines (twin-ski, mono-ski, slalom, tricks, wakeboarding) for leisure or with a view to competition. The facilities include an approved slalom course, a clubhouse and a concrete launch ramp.

The CMR has a club boat fitted with a tiller for beginners’ lessons in the various disciplines, with equipment available on loan (skis, wakes, lifejackets).
