The square tower of the old castle of the Dukes of Bourbon has been restored and reopened to the public. First, stop off at the all-wooden balcony with its magnificent view, then the highlight of the visit is at the very top of the tower, with a spectacular panoramic view of Montluçon.

A symbolic and imposing fortress
Head up to the Louis II de Bourbon esplanade and take in the panoramic view. From here, you can appreciate the importance of the castle and its protective role for Montluçon.
Information boards point out the must-see sights.
The medieval town, nestled around the castle, was protected by mighty ramparts. Flanked by 40 towers, this wall had four gates providing access to the town.
Boulevard de Courtais and Boulevard Carnot, which form a complete loop around the historic centre, allow you to visualise the location of the ramparts, once surrounded by moats.
As you stroll around, you can admire beautiful half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, step inside the peaceful churches of Saint-Pierre and Notre-Dame, or simply wander in the shade of the ramparts in the Jardin Wilson.
